Give it a go!

It's not a tryout — NICA has no tryouts and no bench. A Give It a Go ride is just a chance to meet the team and see if your rider loves it.

How it works

New riders can join the team for a ride before signing up for the season.

One ride, no commitment. A parent or guardian signs the league's one-time waiver, and your rider joins a team ride or practice.
Never ridden a mountain bike? That's normal. Many New Jersey league riders start with no trail experience.
Photos? Only with your permission. Fill in our Photo Permission form and choose what's right for your family.
No bike? Ask us. The NJ league runs a Loaner Bike Program, with priority for families with financial need.

A properly fitted helmetIt should sit level, not rock or slide, and cover the forehead. This one is non-negotiable.
A bike in good working orderBrakes that stop, tires with air, a chain that turns. Not sure your bike is trail-ready? Ask us before the ride.
WaterA bottle on the bike or in a small backpack. Riding is thirsty work.
Weather-appropriate layersRiders warm up fast. A light jacket they can take off is better than one heavy coat.
Closed-toe shoesSneakers with a grippy sole are perfect for a first ride.
A snackSomething easy to eat for a quick energy boost.
A sense of adventureRoots, rocks and a bit of mud are half the fun.
